The objective of this project was to create a recipe book for post-secondary students. This recipe book, titled Bougie on a Budget, was created for college students on a budget. The concept is common college food tropes that students are relegated to eating because of a budget, such as mac and cheese or instant ramen. The recipe book dresses these meals up in a cheeky, "instagrammable" way so students can have fun with their low-cost meals and have something to show off.
The project included three double-page spreads and a cover page. The grid was carefully considered, in order to fit recipes of various sizes onto the pages in a consistent way. All pages include physical photography.
The overall aesthetic of the book is dark and moody, and is meant to be faux-glamorous, or "bougie," to stand out to the target audience. Abril Fatface is used as the heading typeface because it's contrasting thin and thick strokes support the modern glam aesthetic.
